Round 17 1st Grade Preview

Round 17 of the Well Hung Glass and Aluminium First Grade competition sees the race for a final 4 finish really heat up with five sides battling it out to fill the remaining three finals spots. This weekends action will see 2 blockbuster games back2back at Mike Carney Toyota Park with Charters Towers looking to bounce back from a narrow loss last week against Teachers West, whilst Brothers will be looking to make it 2 on the trot against North Ward. In the rounds other fixture, JCU will host a Burdekin team fresh off a bye up in Ingham.

Charters Towers V Teachers West

The first game of Round 17 is shaping to be an intriguing one, with Charters Towers making the trip in to do battle against the juggernaut that is Teachers West. After a narrow defeat last week to the hands of Brothers, the Bulls will be out to shake up the competition with their standard tough country rugby. The Bulls know they will have to be at their very best as they know Teachers have been in scintillating form holding a perfect record against them this year. Teachers will be looking for a strong display, and with only a few rounds left before finals, they will be putting in their best performance. Kick-off is at 3:40pm @Mike Carney Toyota Park.

Brothers V North Ward

This fixture will headline the double header at Mike Carney Toyota Park on Saturday when North Ward take on a resurgent Brothers outfit. North Ward will be looking at shaking off last weeks belting at the hands of Teachers West and putting out a dominant display on the park. Brothers on the other hand will be looking to make it two wins in a row after a narrow come from behind victory against Charters Towers last Saturday. The last time these two teams met there was plenty of running rugby which resulted in a North Ward victory, so expect to see some fireworks when these two sides go head2head on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is at 5:20pm @Mike Carney Toyota Park.

JCU V Burdekin

The final game of the round will see both teams make the trek to Ingham this week. After putting in arguably one of their best performances last week against the LARCS, JCU will be looking to string together another strong performance this weekend in Ingham. Burdekin will be on the hunt for a victory over the Uni boys to regain their Top 4 place on the ladder. Having had a week off last week with a bye, the Canetoads will be pumped and ready to go, however, with JCU improving week in and week out it’s only a matter of time before there is a major upset. Kick-off is at 4:20pm up in Ingham.
