The Northern region under 15 rugby union travelled to a very windy and chilly Toowoomba last Wednesday to compete in the QRFSU championships over 4 days of competition – Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

Day 1: The team started slowly on day 1 suffering a narrow 10 – 12 defeat against Peninsula and being soundly beaten by eventual winners South Coast 0 – 41. Player of the matches:
- Game 1 V Peninsula – Connor Lyons (Columba College and Charters Towers rugby club)
- Game 2 V South Coast – Kane Kirkwood (Burdekin Catholic High School and Burdekin rugby club)
Day 2: Day 2 also proved difficult with further losses to very strong Metropolitan teams Met North 5 – 38 and Met West 0 – 24. Although the magnitude of these losses was reasonably large the performance of the boys was much improved from day 1. Player of the matches:
- Game 1 V Met North – Jones Munro (Burdekin Catholic High School and Burdekin rugby club)
- Game 2 V Met West – Jay McPherson (Ignatius Park College and Brothers rugby club)
Day 3: These results left the team in 5th place in their pool and playing for the 7’s trophy on day 3 against Wide Bay. The Northern boys had 4 wins from 4 games proving to be accomplished 7’s players. Players of the match in the 7’s games were:
- Dorran Green (Blackheath Thornburgh College and Charters Towers rugby club)
- Jayce Gallego (Home Hill State High School and Burdekin rugby club)
- Bryce Kingham (Columba College and Charters Towers rugby club)
- Matthew Dyer (Ignatius Park College and Brothers rugby club)
Day 4: Following a number of positive performances in the 7’s carnival the boys played Wide Bay on Sunday to determine 9th/10th. The boys displayed much improvement to finish the carnival on a high with a comfortable 33 – 7 victory. Player of match:
