1st Grade Grad Final Wrap Up

Teachers West V LARCS

The most anticipated match of the weekend took place on Saturday evening when the Well Hung Glass & Aluminium first grade competition concluded. With one final encounter between defending premiers Teachers West and competition newcomers the LARCS. The previous encounter between these sides was a physically demanding game that saw Teachers West remain undefeated in 2019 and progressing straight through to the Grand Final. LARCS on the other hand had to go the hard way, accounting for North Ward on their way to making the Grand Final in their first season. With a bumper crowd rolling through the gates at Mike Carney Toyota Park, this game had a special sort of feeling about it. Right from the start the two forward packs brought the physicality to the table, resulting in clean & fast ball for their skilful backlines. Teachers West’s flying winger Nick Poole was the beneficiary early on with the winger finding the try line once and coming close on a few other occasions. The LARCS threatened the Bulldogs defensive line and were able to crawl within 16 points of the lead but all hopes of a comeback were smothered when Teachers West fullback Curtis Rayment sliced through the defensive line to run over 60m and score a great solo try. Bulldogs forward Martin Brennan was rewarded with Player of the final after a monumental effort that helped his side win their 5th straight TDRU Premiership.
