Qld Reds players touch down in Townsville

Queensland Reds players Angus Scott-Young and Tuaina Tualima touched down in Townsville yesterday ahead of their Reds to Regions visit planned over the next two days. The Players were excited to be in Townville to rub shoulders with the locals and spend time with two special Rugby families in particular.

Following their arrival the players fronted the local media in the temperate conditions before completing some compulsory training requirements including a gut busting running session at 4pm in the Townsville heat. The players then met their host families who will be taking care of them over the next few days in the North. The players will spend Tuesday morning with the local Charity arm of Legacy Qld helping support the families of servicemen who never returned.

They will then head to Bluewater State School to run clinics with students, many of whom were affecting by the February Floods. The players will then attend a dinner function with local club Brothers Tuesday evening before spending Wednesday assisting the TDRU Development Staff running their regular Development Programs at local schools including St Anthonys, St Clares and Grammar North Shore.

The Watson and Laskey families are two strong Rugby households in Townsville both with impressionable Rugby fans under their rooves. The Watsons (Prue and Tyrone) have produced four Rugby playing boys to the TDRU community featuring across many clubs – beginning with Charters Towers Bulls as well as with the Grammar School, Teachers West and North Ward Rugby Clubs featuring Thomas, Jamie, Timothy and Matthew Watson. Their daughter Sally has also featured on the Rugby paddock from time to time in the 7s format.

The Laskeys (Lisa and Shane) have had a long term involvement in Senior Rugby with Shane most recently the Coach of Brothers 1st Grade for the past 4 seasons among many other roles at the club with Lisa assisting in any way she can. The Laskeys latest Rugby members are their children with son Amos featuring in the Brothers Under 8s and Daughter Gabrielle planning to take the field in the Teenage Girls competition in 2019 following the success of their team in the U12s Girls 7s last month.

The Townsville Rugby community would like to thank the Queensland Reds and Brad Thorn for this initiative as well as both Angus and Tuaina and the host families for their involvement and enthusiasm.
