Masters (Over 35s) to play for mates gone to soon

The Annual Remembrance Day Masters Match between the Townsville and Army Old Boys will have extra emotion this Saturday afternoon with the players not only recognising the significance of Remembrance Day but also remembering former players who are no longer with us. The inaugural Nicolls-Bourke Memorial Shield – Spirit of Mateship Award will be up for grabs this weekend at Mike Carney Toyota Park.

The Masters Match has been a mainstay of the Remembrance Day Rugby calendar since its inception 5 years ago. 2019 will see the Nicolls-Bourke Shield contested for the first time. Played in honour of Adam Nicolls and Jason Bourke both of whom played in this annual fixture and were passionate Rugby men and friends who passed away too soon.

In the Masters tradition of enjoyment rather than scoreline the Shield will not be presented to the winner but to the player who is selected by the referee as the Best and Fairest (More emphasis on the fairest) on the day of the match. Team representatives Peter Malone (Army) and Chris Caleo (Townsville) are expecting both teams to play the game in the spirit of Remembrance Day and Masters Rugby.

Kick off for the Masters is 5:30pm with the Mens game directly after at 6:30pm
