Number 5 – Grand Final Day Success!
2019 was another successful year for both our Junior and Senior competitions with entertaining rugby being played throughout the year, that all built up to one compelling grand final weekend. This year saw a total of 7 different clubs take away a grand final win across both the Juniors and Seniors. This goes to show how the development of clubs are changing, there is no longer 1 or 2 dominate clubs, each club is growing from this, making the competition much stronger.
The main attraction of this weekend was the highly anticipated Well Hung Glass and Aluminium 1st Grade grand final. Competition heavyweights Teachers West were on the hunt for their 5th straight premiership but had a tough task in front of them against competition newcomers the LARCs (Lavarack Army Rugby Club), who were hungry for their maiden premiership. After 80 gruelling minutes of rugby, Teachers West ran away with a 42-12 victory, sealing a 2nd straight year undefeated and a 5th straight premiership. Grand Final day also saw our Club Champions crowned in our Seniors – Teachers West & Juniors – Charters Towers. Charters Towers winning the Junior club Championships goes to show the amount of effort that has been put in out west over the last decade to form one of the powerhouse clubs in the TDRU competition, especially in their Juniors. Well done to Charters Towers and Teachers West. Who will be crowned the 2020 club champions? Below is a list of all 2019 grand final winners:
