Number 12019 Townsville Festival of 7’s Smashes Records!

2019 saw Townsville Rugby’s annual Festival of 7’s roll around for another instalment, and was the biggest on record, with all previous year’s records smashed out of the water!!

Performance Physio Primary Aged 7’s: This year, the Primary Aged 7’s took place on Friday the 18th of October and saw last year’s numbers SMASHED! There was a new division added into this year’s tournament with the introduction of an Under 12’s Girls Only divisions, adding to the Under 9, Under 10, Under 11 & Under 12 mixed taking the total number of teams to a record number of 41 teams. There were teams from all over Townsville with a a couple of teams from our regional parts including: Whitsundays, Charters Towers and Burdekin. This indicated that our juniors and primary aged boys and girls are still participating and loving their rugby. We extend a big thank you to the coaches, managers, parents and all 504 participants of the carnival for their contribution and exceptional efforts. We look forward to seeing all this years’ competing teams return bigger and better to help expand this leg of the Townsville #Festivalof7s in 2020. Winners: Under 12 Girls Only – Cranbrook State School, Under 12 Mixed – Just One More, Under 11 Mixed – Ross River Redskins, Under 10 Mixed – Blue Brothers, Under 9 Mixed – Wolves.

Performance Physio Teenage 7’s: The Teenage 7’s of 2019 took place over the 25th & 26th of October at Mike Carney Toyota Park and once again saw a record number of teams partake with a total of 56. This year saw the addition of 2 new age group in the boy’s division, and some shuffling of ages in the Teenage girls. Boys Division – Under 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 and Girls Division – Under 14, 16, 18.  What a great weekend, which couldn’t have happened without tremendous amounts of help. To the Players, Parents, Coaches, Referees and Volunteers from the teams that travelled from all over including Charters Towers, Bowen, Airlie Beach, Proserpine, Townsville, Mackay and the Burdekin we cannot thank you enough. We look forward to seeing all this years’ competing teams return bigger and better to help expand our biggest leg of the Townsville #Festivalof7s. Winners: Under 13 Boys – Barbarians, Under 14 Boys – Grammar, Under 15 Boys – Ross River Redskins, Under 16 Boys – Ross River Redskins, Under 18 Boys – Cathedral, Under 14 Girls – North Ward, Under 16 Girls – CT Bullettes, Under 18 Girls – North Ward.

Flynns Irish Bar Senior 7’s: The final instalment of “Townsville’s Festival of 7s”, the Flynn’s Irish Bar Senior 7s, took place on November 2nd and 3rd at Mike Carney Toyota Park. This year saw only two very strong divisions with a Men’s and Women’s. The Men’s Competition obtained 18 teams from across the Northern and Central Regions of Queensland which was an increase of 5 teams from last year, whilst the Women’s division boasted 8 teams in their competition, 2 more than last year. Winners: Mens Cup – Walkabouts, Mens Bowl – Young Guns, Mens Plate – Big Papi’s, Mens Spoon – Reggie’s, Womens Cup – SMC, Womens Bowl – Lumberjills.
