2023 will once again see the same pathway that was brought into play as of last year with the Townsville Brolgas XV’s competing at the North QLD Trials as part of the QLD Country Pathway.
Queensland Country Rugby has streamlined the Junior model alongside the current senior North QLD vs Central QLD vs South QLD format. This means that the Townsville Brolgas will face off against rivals FNQ Rugby for selection in the North QLD teams to travel to Rockhampton for the QCRU Champs from the 30th June to the 2nd of July.
This year the pathway includes Under 14 & 16 Girls along side the Under 13s, 14s and 16 Boys. Despite an Under 12s Brolgas team competing against FNQ, there is no further pathway for that age group currently however a tour in September is in Planning. The Country pathway culminates in a QLD Country Jersey on offer when the Country teams take on the City teams.
The Senior rep model remains the same for the Under 19s, Senior Womens and Senior Mens Brolgas who will compete against FNQ in the NQ Trials in May, as well as Rockhampton in July with both events being played alongside the Junior teams.
Planning is underway to take some of these Junior Brolgas teams on tours to the ACT and to other regional areas of QLD as well as the Junior Girls Brolgas 7s who will travel to Brisbane in September – Watch this space!
