Game 1 - North Ward V Teachers West
Round 2 of the TDRU Rapid Spin Under-19 Colts competition delivered a highly anticipated clash, with early ladder leaders North Ward and Teachers West going head-to-head following dominant wins in their opening games.
Both sides started strongly, trading early tries in a fast-paced opening that reflected the quality of the contest. However, with Teachers West lacking a bench, fatigue began to take its toll as the match progressed.
North Ward capitalized in the second half, lifting their intensity and showcasing their depth and attacking ability to take control of the game. Their structured play and execution saw them pull away and stamp their authority as a leading contender this season.
North Ward ran out convincing winners, defeating Teachers West 55–19.
Mac Flegler led the charge with a hat-trick, while Oscar Roper, Rory Foyle, Luke Courtney, Hans Ila, and Jonah “Tiger” Allen — who stepped up impressively from the Under-17s — all crossed for tries. Ila also added eight conversions in an outstanding all-round performance.
Teachers West showed flashes of their attacking strength, with tries to Gideon Lafoga, Toma Apete, and Luke Madsen, while Parker Hood added two conversions.
The result sees North Ward take an early lead in the competition standings, while Teachers West will look to regroup ahead of the next round.
Game 2 - Brothers V Western Suburbs
Game 2 of the round saw Brothers take on Western Suburbs, with both sides eager to respond after heavy losses in their opening matches.
With similar squad numbers, the contest loomed as a closely fought encounter, and both teams showed strong intent early. Brothers struck first, displaying sharp ball movement and solid attacking structure to gain the upper hand.
Western Suburbs responded with determined defence, working hard to hold Brothers out for extended periods. However, Brothers’ persistence and attacking depth eventually proved too strong, as they continued to break through and build momentum as the game wore on.
Brothers ran out convincing 55–7 winners to get their season back on track.
Chester Hobbs led the way with a hat-trick, while Hunter Wallace also crossed three times and added two conversions in a standout performance. Further tries came from Daniel Player, Brock Watson, and Zak Green, with conversions shared between Leslie Trimmer, Brock Watson, and Chester Hobbs.
Western Suburbs showed resilience throughout, with Zach Ross scoring their lone try and Carter Bates adding the conversion.
The result gives Brothers a confidence boost moving forward, while Western Suburbs continue to gain valuable experience in their debut Colts campaign.
