The TDRU Rapid Spin Under-19 Colts competition returned in strong fashion last weekend, marking its third consecutive year since being reintroduced after a lengthy hiatus.
Game 1 - Brothers V Teachers West
Round 1 opened on Friday night with a highly anticipated grand final rematch between Brothers and Teachers West on Field 1. Despite high expectations, Brothers were challenged early, with limited player availability impacting their ability to match the intensity of their opponents.
Teachers West capitalized from the outset, delivering a commanding performance built on sharp attacking play and strong cohesion. Standout performances from Parker Hood and Charlie Hood set the tone, with both players showcasing exceptional attacking skill throughout the match.
Teachers West quickly established control and never looked back, running away with a convincing 61–7 victory to begin their season on a high.
Charlie Hood led the try-scoring effort with a hat-trick, while Tallis Smith-Wehrman, Parker Hood, Luke Madsen (2), Pio Kelemete, and Samson Kelemete also crossed the line. Parker Hood was outstanding with the boot, converting eight tries.
Brothers’ sole points came through a try to Daniel Player, with Hunter Wallace adding the conversion.
The result sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting and competitive Colts season ahead.
Game 2 - North Ward V Western Suburbs
The second match of the evening saw North Ward face off against Western Suburbs, who were making their debut in the TDRU Rapid Spin Under-19 Colts competition.
Both sides took the field with strong numbers, with North Ward assisting the Dragons to ensure the match could be played as a full 15-a-side contest — a positive sign of sportsmanship early in the season.
North Ward quickly asserted themselves, showcasing impressive structure in both attack and defense to gain the upper hand. Their ability to maintain pressure and convert opportunities saw them build momentum throughout the match.
Despite the result, Western Suburbs showed promising signs in their first outing, with plenty of positives to build on as they continue to develop over the course of the season.
North Ward secured a convincing 42–0 victory, with Markos Manolis leading the way with a hat-trick. He was supported by tries from Sam Barber, Orlando Lochowicz, and Drew Brazier. Hans Ila was flawless with the boot, adding six conversions to round out a dominant team performance.
The match highlighted both North Ward’s early-season strength and the potential of a growing Western Suburbs side.
